Why this oversight?
This year our national conference will be held at Benaras. The venue is Benaras Hindu University. I was going through the mailer announcing the forthcoming event, to be held in November this year, comemorating the Golden Jubilee of our association. Suddenly I sat up bolt upright in my bed (it was close to midnight...) I was possessed by an idea... What sort of blasphemy was that? A university called Benaras Hindu University in India? In secular India? My God, something must be very wrong with this country. How can anything be called Hindu so prominantly? So blatantly? What is happening to all these secular parties? Have they all gone off to sleep? Or worse still, are they in coma? A Hindu university in, of all the places in the world, in India? And the name is not changed after four years of secular rule by the Red partnered UPA government? What is the future of India I ask you? C'mon guys, do something about it... Wake up from your stupor and change its name immediately. Change it to Benaras Secular University...
